About

I have been a counsellor since 2009, working  with children and young people, and also with adults.

I am ACCREDITED by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). This means the quality of my work is assured by our professional governing body, that I abide by important ethical regulation and maintain a very high standard of practice.

My approach is INTEGRATIVE. This means I use a number of therapeutic approaches according to what suits the client. For example a younger client would benefit from play therapy - where we would use toys such as sand-tray, puppets, drawing, role play to help the child work out the problems that are worrying them at that time.

With clients who prefer a more adult approach, we would use talking therapy, although if a client would like to use paper and colours, play-doh or sand to illustrate a point or to express something then this is always welcome.

My APPROACHES mainly include Person Centred, Attachment, Systemic and Psychodynamic, plus Solution Focussed - using threads from each to provide the right balance of exploration, reflection and change. The most significant aspect of counselling is the relationship between you and me - and I am confident my approach is flexible enough to meet you at the right level.

First time? Coming to counselling for the first time can feel a bit strange and nervewracking... Understandably - to 'talk' to someone about things which are worrying, especially someone you have never met - would be nervewracking.

I create a warm and safe environment that facilitates deep thinking and my work is directed more by the client than by formalities or assumed protocol.

Often we may find ourselves talking about very difficult issues and emotions, and sometimes we may not; at any time during our work I like to think there is room for humour when appropriate - a laugh can have as healing an effect as can a cry or a yell.

Where? I have worked in a number of settings - Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, 6th Form Colleges, Adult Private clinics and privately. Each setting has its advantages - as well as its pit-falls! - but in every setting my objective is to connect wholly with the client and to provide the best environment where they can express their worries and learn, through thinking and talking, how to move forward.

Currently I work in a couple of educational settings and privately. I am happy to go into schools and have sessions there, or for the work to take place privately - outside of school or your usual environment.

The  main thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in the location we agree on.
This can be negotiated over email.
